Together!, a prominent organization that works to improve the lives of persons with disabilities, celebrated its 10th anniversary on March 23, 2023. The event was marked with a series of colorful events.
On March 6, the actual date of establishment, Together23 conducted a blood donation program in the presence of representatives from the Ethiopian Red Cross Society. An announcement was made in the media, and a considerable number of donors were present and donated blood. Additionally, a “dinner-in-the-dark” was conducted at Sarem Hotel.
On March 23, the colorful ceremony was opened by the Executive Director, Ato Berhanu Belay, who gave a brief account of the formation of Together!, its objectives, project components, achievements made, and challenges faced. Following the opening speech, Commissioner Girma Seyfu, head of the Addis Ababa Investment Commission, was designated as an ambassador for Together!, in recognition of the committed support he gave to the organization.
Children from the Day Care Center of Together! sang a song accompanied by keyboard music, expressing their gratitude for the education and other opportunities they have received from the organization. A PowerPoint presentation of the general and specific objectives of Together!, its project components and activities, achievements, and challenges were presented.
Performers with visual impairments presented an impressive fashion show, demonstrating the capacity of persons with disabilities. An Amharic poem concerning the destiny of human beings in general, and persons with disabilities in particular, was also presented, highlighting the achievements and challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the past, and recommendations for raising the chances of success for persons with disabilities as a whole.
Certificates were handed over to individuals and organizations by Dr. Eshetu Bekele and Commissioner Girma Seyfu, respectively. Finally, lunch was served to all attendees.
The celebration concluded with a happy note, highlighting the achievements of Together! in the past 10 years, and renewing the organization’s commitment to continue working towards a brighter future for persons with disabilities.
